Early Closing for the Festa del Redentore
On Saturday, July 19, on the occasion of the traditional Festa del Redentore, Le Stanze della Fotografia will close to the public at 5:00 PM (last admission at 4:15 PM).
The celebration, held annually on the third Sunday of July, commemorates the end of the plague that struck Venice between 1575 and 1577, considered one of the most devastating outbreaks since the Black Death of 1348, during which around one-third of the city’s population perished. As an act of thanksgiving, the Venetian Republic commissioned the construction of the Church Santissimo Redentore on the island of Giudecca, designed by Andrea Palladio.
As a sign of devotion, a votive bridge is erected each year to connect the Zattere to Giudecca, allowing the faithful to reach the church on foot for the religious celebration.
The festival is one of the city's most deeply cherished traditions, and the early closing complies with the logistical measures in place for this important event.
